Hema Singh, a Hindi actress born on July 16, 1954, at the age of 69, falls under the zodiac sign of Cancer. She possesses talents in the realm of TV acting as well as movie acting.

Renowned for her acting in the Indian television landscape, Hema Singh gained prominence for her portrayal of Imarti Shrivastav, the central character in the soap opera “Kairi – Rishta Khatta Meetha.” This show aired on Colors TV in 2012. Her portrayal involved depicting a dominant mother-in-law who, as a single parent and family head, used an authoritative approach to hold her family together.

Originally from Lucknow and raised in Kanpur, Hema Singh is the daughter of renowned Hindi poet Raghuvir Sahay. Her mother, a knowledgeable musician, and her three sisters complete her family. Even during her childhood, Hema was mischievous, enjoying activities like tree climbing and relishing street food.

With a literary heritage, Hema aspired to be an actor from an early age. Organizing plays with neighbors as a young girl, she debuted as a performer at the age of 11. Excelling in her studies at the National School of Drama in New Delhi, she later joined the institution as a professor of acting and speech after brief stints as a freelance actor. A hiatus from teaching allowed her to delve into the TV industry, leading to her role as Imarti ‘Devi’. To prepare, she diligently studied the role, took notes daily, and even drew inspiration from her own mother-in-law.

Hema Singh also imparts her knowledge as a professor at Mumbai’s Rashtriya Natya Vidhyalaya. Having collaborated with Shyam Benegal on stage and being part of the serial “Bhanwar,” she draws from her TV experiences to better equip her students for the path of excellence.

Hema Singh’s journey also includes her early role at the age of 11 in the soap opera “Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi.” She played the role of a politician in the film “Kaun Kitne Paani Mein” (2015). She subsequently pursued education at the National School of Drama (NSD) in New Delhi and later became an associate professor there. One of her notable roles is that of Imarti Devi in the TV series “Kairi — Rishta Khatta Meetha.” She also portrayed Jhumri in “Kanjoos Makhichoos” (2023).
