Guy Ritchie

Biography:

Guy Stuart Ritchie is an English film director, producer, and screenwriter who was born on September 10, 1968. He is best known for his large-scale action-adventure and comic gangster movies.

Before directing television commercials, Ritchie worked in entry-level positions in the film industry after dropping out of school at the age of 15. The Hard Case, a short film he made in 1995, was followed by his feature-length directorial debut, the crime comedy Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels (1998). His second movie, Snatch (2000), which was both critically and financially successful, helped him become well-known. After Snatch, Ritchie directed the critically acclaimed box office failure Swept Away (2002), which starred Madonna, to whom Ritchie was married from 2000 to 2008. He later directed RocknRolla (2008) and Revolver (2005), both of which had mixed reviews and were less successful. He directed the popular films Sherlock Holmes (2009) and Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (2011), which starred Robert Downey Jr. in the lead role. The former film received nominations for both Best Original Score and Best Art Direction at the Academy Awards.

The Man from U.N.C.L.E. (2015), which is based on the 1960s television series, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword (2017), and Aladdin (2019), which is Disney’s live-action adaptation of their 1992 animated film, are among the highest-grossing movies of Ritchie’s career and made over $1 billion worldwide. He made a comeback to criminal comedy in 2019 with The Gentlemen (2019), which was largely well-received and profitable. He later collaborated with Jason Statham on the action movies Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre (2023) and Wrath of Man (2021). The Covenant, his second movie of 2023, got mostly favorable reviews.
