Gurdas Maan, born on January 4, 1957, is an eminent Indian singer, songwriter, and actor primarily associated with Punjabi music and films. He gained widespread recognition in 1980 with the song “Dil Da Mamla Hai” and has since produced over 34 albums and penned more than 305 songs.
Born in Giddarbaha, Punjab, to Gurdev Singh and Tej Kaur, Maan was inclined toward music and mimicry from a young age. He completed his initial education in Giddarbaha and pursued his graduation from DAV College, Malout.
Maan’s musical journey began when a producer invited him to perform “Dil Da Mamla Hai” on DD National in 1980. He is celebrated for various notable songs and achievements in the music industry, including being the only Punjabi singer to receive the National Award for Best Male Playback Singer for his rendition of “Heer” in the film “Waris Shah: Ishq Daa Waaris.”
Aside from his musical success, Maan has also excelled in acting, featuring in Punjabi, Hindi, and Tamil films. Notably, he portrayed the Punjabi poet Waris Shah in “Waris Shah: Ishq Daa Waaris,” earning critical acclaim.
