Ajay Kumar, professionally known as Guinness Pakru, is an Indian actor who gained international recognition by entering the Guinness World Records as the shortest actor to play a character in a full-length film, standing at just 2 feet 6 inches (76 cm) tall. He achieved this feat in the Malayalam movie “Athbhutha Dweepu,” directed by Vinayan. The film featured him in the lead role as dwarf prince Gajendra, set in a fantasy island called Vamanapuri, where men were cursed to be dwarfs while women had normal height. Remarkably, around 300 dwarves appeared in the film, which was later dubbed in Tamil and Telugu versions.
Ajay Kumar, born on August 31, 1976, hails from Mulavana, Kundara, and was the eldest son of Radhakrishna Pillai and Ambujakshiyamma. His father worked as an auto driver, and his mother was an L.I.C agent who also worked at a telephone service agency on contract. Due to his mother’s job transfers, the family frequently moved, ultimately settling in Pandavam, Aymanam, Kerala. Ajay Kumar has two younger sisters, Kavitha and Sangeetha. He pursued his education at C.M.S L.P School, Chalukunnu, and later at C.M.S High School, Olassa, where he completed his S.S.L.C. He went on to graduate with a BA degree in economics and obtained a diploma in computer science.
His journey into the entertainment industry began as a mimicry artist, performing in troupes like Mangalam Mimics, Nadirsha’s Cochin Universal, and Kottayam Nazeer’s Cochin Discovery. By the age of 18, he had already completed over 1000 mimicry stages. He made his debut in cinema with the children’s film “Ambili Ammavan” in 1984 and later ventured into TV serials. On March 9, 2006, he married Gayathri Mohan, and they have two daughters together.
In an extraordinary transformation, Guinness Pakru transitioned to become a film director with the 2013 Malayalam movie “Kutteem Kolum,” where he also played the lead role. This made him possibly the shortest director in the history of filmmaking. The film featured an ensemble cast and was noted for its unique approach. Pakru’s accolades include his Guinness World Records for both his acting and directorial achievements, and he has also received recognition through Kerala State Film Awards and Tamil Nadu State Film Awards for his performances in various films, including “Dishyum” in 2006.
