Gregory Peck

Biography:

Gregory Peck is an American actor who had gained a reputation as a distinguished Hollywood leading man of the Golden Age of Hollywood cinema. Born on April 5, 1916, in La Jolla, California, Gregory Peck started his career in acting on stage and moved to Hollywood in the 1940s. He soon made his mark with his noble screen presence in movies like The Keys of the Kingdom (1944), The Yearling (1946), Gentleman’s Agreement (1947), Roman Holiday (1953), and The Guns of Navarone (1961).

He gained prominence due to his portrayal of morally noble and courageous and complex characters. He was one of the greatest actors of his generation. Gregory Peck’s greatest movie was probably To Kill a Mockingbird (1962) when he played the role of Atticus Finch for which he won the Academy Award for Best Actor. During his career, he got nominated for the Oscars five times, four for The Keys of the Kingdom, The Yearling, Gentleman’s Agreement, and Twelve O’Clock High and once for To Kill a Mockingbird. Some of his other famous movies include Spellbound (1945), Cape Fear (1962), The Omen (1976), and The Boys from Brazil (1978), the latter of which won him a Golden Globe nomination.

Gregory Peck got the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award of the Academy in 1968 in recognition of his philanthropic and humanitarian work. Gregory Peck continued his acting in movies and television till the 1990s. He died on June 12, 2003, in Los Angeles, California.
