Geethanjali, the versatile Indian actress, left an indelible mark in the world of cinema with her significant contributions to Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Hindi films. Her remarkable career spanned nearly six decades, during which she graced the silver screen in over 500 films, exhibiting her talent in various languages.

Her journey in the film industry commenced as a dancer in the 1960 film “Rani Ratnaprabha.” It was the legendary Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao (NTR) who provided her with a breakthrough in the Telugu cinema by introducing her as a heroine in his directorial debut, “Sita Rama Kalyanam,” in 1961.

Geethanjali’s cinematic repertoire included notable roles in films like “Murali Krishna” (1964), “Doctor Chakravarthy” (1964), “Illalu” (1965), “Sambarala Rambabu” (1970), “Kaalam Marindi” (1972), and “Abbayigaru Ammayigaru” (1973). Her acting prowess and on-screen presence endeared her to audiences across India.

Outside of her acting career, Geethanjali also served as a member of the Nandi Awards committee, contributing to the recognition of excellence in Telugu cinema.

The story behind her name change is intriguing. Geethanjali initially worked in the Hindi film “Parasmani” in 1963, a production by Lakshmikant-Pyarelal. Given that the name “Mani” was already part of the film’s title, she was rechristened as Geetanjali.

Throughout her career, Geethanjali shared the screen with actor Rama Krishna in several films, including “Thodu Needa” (1965), “Hantakulostunnaru Jagratta” (1966), “Rajayogam” (1967), “Ranabheri” (1968), and “Nenu Naa Desam” (1973). The personal and professional connection between the two actors deepened, leading to their marriage on August 15, 1974.

Sadly, the cinematic world lost Geethanjali on the early morning of October 31, 2019, due to a cardiac arrest. She passed away while receiving medical treatment at a private hospital near Film Nagar in Hyderabad. Her demise marked the end of an era in Indian cinema, but her remarkable contributions continue to be celebrated and cherished by fans and the film fraternity.
