Gary Oldman

Biography:

Gary Oldman is a famous English actor praised for his versatile performances and the ability to transform into various characters who may be both historical figures and fictionals with questionable morality. Born on March 21, 1958, in London, England, Oldman graduated from the Rose Bruford College of Speech and Drama and started acting in British theatre before becoming famous due to such films as Sid and Nancy (1986), Prick Up Your Ears (1987), Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead (1990).

Oldman gained international fame thanks to his roles in JFK (1991), Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1992), Léon: The Professional (1994), The Fifth Element (1997), and Air Force One (1997). These movies brought him a reputation of performing in roles of intense and unstable characters. Oldman later became known because of his portrayal of Sirius Black in the Harry Potter film series and of James Gordon in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy.

Oldman’s best performance was in the movie called Darkest Hour (2017), where he played the role of Winston Churchill, British Prime Minister. This performance allowed him to receive his first and the only Oscar award in his career so far, which is the Academy Award for Best Actor. Oldman received three nominations for Academy Award for Best Actor in Total: Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (2011), Darkest Hour (2017), and Mank (2020). Besides, other significant works of the actor are The Hitman’s Bodyguard (2017), Mank (2020), and Oppenheimer (2023).
