Biography:
Actress Elizabeth Perkins was born on November 18, 1960. About Last Night (1986), From the Hip (1987), Big (1988), Enid Is Sleeping (1990), The Flintstones (1994), Miracle on 34th Street (1994), Moonlight and Valentino (1995), The Ring Two (2005), and Hop (2011) are among the movies in which she has starred. She is particularly well-known for her portrayal of Celia Hodes in the Showtime television series Weeds, for which she was nominated for two Golden Globes and three Primetime Emmys. When they immigrated to the US, Perkins’s paternal grandparents, Greek immigrants from Thessaloniki, anglicized their last name from “Pisperikos” to “Perkins”.
Perkins’ parents separated in 1963, and she grew up in Colrain, Massachusetts. She started her career in theater with Greenfield, Massachusetts-based Arena Civic Theatre, a nonprofit community theater organization. After attending the prestigious preparatory school Northfield Mount Hermon School, Perkins lived in Chicago from 1978 to 1981 and earned a Certificate in Acting from DePaul University’s Goodman School of Drama. She debuted on Broadway in Neil Simon’s Brighton Beach Memoirs in 1984 and went on to work with several ensemble companies, such as the Steppenwolf Theater and the New York Shakespeare Festival.
