Eashvar Karthic

Biography:

Indian actor and director Eashvar Karthic mostly appears in Tamil and Telugu films. With the mystery-thriller Penguin (2020), he made his directing debut in Tamil.

Karthic claims that he was influenced by the action movies Who Am I? (1998) and Rumble in the Bronx (1995) and that he grew up idolizing Jackie Chan. But he made the decision to enter the film business after seeing Mani Ratnam’s Idhayathai Thirudathe on television. He had previously worked in the financial sector and the IT industry before pursuing a career in filmmaking in 2013.

After quitting his bank career, he first worked in theater with the intention of becoming an actor. It was there that he found his literary talent. He battled for seven years before landing an acting part in V1 Murder Case (2019) and Magalir Mattum (2017). It was then that he discovered his true calling was film direction.

He battled for more than two years to find possibilities until Vijay Sethupathi, who also played Penguin, was introduced to him by his friend Linga. After reading one of his scripts and being impressed, Vijay Sethupathi advised him to get in touch with Stone Bench Films, which resulted in the creation of Penguin (2020).

In thirty-six days, Eashvar finished the Penguin shoot. Several scholarly journals that address women-focused movies, over-the-top behavior during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the portrayal of the underprivileged have also referenced his directorial debut. During the pandemic, it was also the first significant Tamil movie to receive a direct OTT release.

Zebra, a financial criminal thriller starring Satyadev, Dhananjaya, Priya Bhavani Shankar, and Amrutha Iyengar, is the film that Eashvar is currently directing in Telugu. The music director was confirmed to be Ravi Basrur. Since 2023, Zebra has been in the post-production stage.
