Christopher Benstead

Biography:

Christopher Benstead is a British film composer, arranger, and re-recording mixer who has won an Academy Award. Benstead worked together with filmmaker Guy Ritchie to write the music for both the highly anticipated Netflix series The Gentlemen, which was a sequel to the 2019 film, and the feature film The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, which starred Henry Cavill. His compositions for Jason Statham’s movies Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre and Wrath of Man, as well as Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant, starring Jake Gyllenhaal, were highly praised by critics.

Alongside renowned songwriter and composer Alan Menken, he also composed and arranged more music for Guy Ritchie’s Aladdin. He also produced and arranged the songs in the movie, collaborating with Will Smith to reimagine the songs from the original. Additionally, he composed the title track for Guy Ritchie’s Young Sherlock, which was inspired by Kasabians’ “Days are forgotten.”

Benstead collaborated closely with director Bill Condon and Alan Menken to write extra music for Beauty and the Beast. For his work as a re-recording mixer on Alfonso Cuaron’s 2013 film Gravity, which starred Sandra Bullock and George Clooney, he won both an Oscar and a BAFTA. Benstead’s music mixing on Gravity earned him the Vice-Chancellor’s Alumni Award.
