Christophe Beck
Biography:
Beck began taking piano lessons at age five, and by eleven he was playing Bee Gees songs by ear and performing with his first band, Newton Talks, which later licensed a track for Hot Tub Time Machine. At Crescent School, he studied piano, saxophone, and drums. During his time at Yale University, where he majored in music, he wrote two musicals.
After graduating, Beck moved to Los Angeles to enroll in USC’s film scoring program, studying under Jerry Goldsmith. A recommendation from Buddy Baker, then head of USC’s Music Department, led to Beck’s first scoring job on the Canadian TV series White Fang. Following several more television projects, he was hired to compose the score for season two of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. His work on the episode “Becoming, Part 1” earned him an Emmy Award for Outstanding Music Composition.
Beck’s film career took off with the 2000 cheerleading comedy Bring It On. His later credits include Under the Tuscan Sun, Edge of Tomorrow, Crazy, Stupid, Love, Pitch Perfect, and all three films in The Hangover trilogy. He also scored the Oscar- and Grammy-winning animated hit Frozen, along with multiple projects in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. At the 2022 D23 Expo, Disney revealed that Beck had created a new arrangement of “When You Wish Upon a Star” for the company’s 100th anniversary logo, conducted by Tim Davies and first shown before Strange World.
Beck currently works from his studio in Santa Monica, California.
