Indian filmmaker Balaji K. Kumar is a filmmaker. The neo-noir crime thriller Vidiyum Munn (2013) marked his directorial debut in Tamil cinema. It was praised by critics and viewers alike when it was first released. After that, he began working as a story board illustrator for advertising agencies including Saatchi & Saatchi, JWT, and Ogilvy & Mather.
UCLA was the school of cinematography for Balaji K. Kumar. He directed a number of commercials for American and European businesses. The trailer for the 2003 English-language movie Twelve Twisted Tricks, which he directed, debuted at the Cannes Film Festival.
Since the movie was never released, the trailer took home the Best Trailer – No Movie award. His following picture, 9 Lives of Mara (2007), won numerous accolades. Then, in 2013, he made his Tamil film debut with Vidiyum Munn. Despite failing at the box office, the movie received positive reviews upon its debut.
“Director Balaji is unquestionably at the top of his game,” a critic observed. Balaji Kumar states, “We have created Vidiyum Munn to be a film for a mature audience, akin to a new generation.” The movie addresses a global problem. He spent ten years writing stories before making a comeback with Kolai (2023), a film based on an actual event that happened in New York in 1923.
