Biography:

Asrani, whose real name is Govardhan Thakurdas Jethanand Asrani, is an Indian actor and comedian who has appeared in numerous Hindi films. He was born on January 1, 1941, in Jaipur, Rajasthan, India.

Asrani started his acting career in the late 1960s and early 1970s. He gained recognition for his impeccable comic timing, dialogue delivery, and ability to portray diverse characters. He is known for his roles as a comical sidekick and supporting actor in Bollywood films.

Asrani has worked in over 350 films in Hindi and other regional languages. Some of his notable films include “Sholay” (1975), where he played the role of the jailer, “Chupke Chupke” (1975), “Amar Akbar Anthony” (1977), “Namak Halaal” (1982), and “Baazigar” (1993). He has also worked with renowned directors like Hrishikesh Mukherjee, Basu Chatterjee, and Prakash Mehra.

His portrayal of the character “Angrezo ke Zamane ke Jailer” (Jailer from the British era) in “Sholay” became one of his most memorable roles and solidified his status as a talented comic actor.

Apart from his work in films, Asrani has also acted in plays and television shows. He has performed in Gujarati plays and has made appearances in popular TV serials, including “F.I.R.” and “Woh Teri Bhabhi Hai Pagle.”
