Ashutosh Phatak
Biography:
Mumbai-based Ashutosh Phatak is a composer, producer, multi-instrumentalist, and businessman. He co-founded The True School of Music, The Quarter, and the live music chain blueFROG. He is the creator of singShala, a music learning software that was once called Learn to Sing. Ashu has written music for more than 4000 TV ads, more than 10 feature film soundtracks, and more than 15 albums of modern music.
Ashu, who attended the Cathedral & John Connon School, joined his schoolmates in an unofficial band and took on vocal duties. He returned to Mumbai and worked briefly in his family’s business after graduating from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in Economics and a minor in Western Classical Music Theory.
At the same time, Ashu reassembled his former band to form Orphean Revival (1993–1995) and wrote music for TV commercials and serials. One of the first original scores for an Indian fashion show was written by Ashu in 1995. Later in the year, he wrote a music for designers Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla, which was once more played during the Femina Miss India pageant.
