Actress Arundhati Nag (née Rao) was born in 1955/1956. She began her involvement with multilingual theatre in India more than 25 years ago, when she moved to Mumbai and joined the Indian People’s Theatre Association (IPTA). There, she performed in plays in Gujarati, Marathi, and Hindi. Later, she moved to Bangalore, where she worked on Kannada, Tamil, Malayalam, and English.
They spent a few years residing in Chintamani, Karnataka.Her involvement with theatre continued in Bangalore after she married Kannada actor-director Shankar Nag (1980–1990).
There, she appeared in multiple Kannada plays, including Anju Mallige by Girish Karnad, 27 Mavalli Circle, which was based on the well-known play Wait Until Dark, Sandhya Chayya (Jayant Dalvi), Nagamandala by Girish Karnad, and Mother Courage by Bertolt Brecht as Hulaguru Huliyavva.
She has contributed to a number of Kannada films, including Nodiswamy, Navirodu Heege (1987), Accident (1984), and Parameshi Prema Prasanga (1984).
Nag constructed a theater in Bangalore devoted to producing high-caliber plays. Shankara Ranga In 2010, she won the National Film Awards (57th), the Padma Shri, and the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award (2008).
Nag has worked in theater, film, and television for more than 40 years. She is the creator and Managing Trustee of the Sanket Trust, which was founded in 1992 and is responsible for the management of Bangalore’s Ranga Shankara theater.
Theater enthusiasts in the city can enjoy a top-notch theatrical experience at Ranga Shankara. In its twelfth year, the annual Ranga Shankara Theatre Festival has established itself as a staple event on Bangalore’s cultural calendar.
Nag is still quite busy in the theatre; two of her most recent productions are “Odakalu Bimba” (Kannada) and “Bikhre Bimb” (Hindi) by Girish Karnad. Her most recent feature film was The Man Who Knew Infinity (2016), in which she portrayed Ramanujan’s mother, a math whiz.
She has also acted in Malayalam Da Thadiya (2012) and Drama (2018 film), as well as Hindi films Paa (2009), “Sapnay” (1997), and “Dil Se” (1998), as well as Kannada films Golibar (1991), Jogi (2005), and “Andar Bahar”.
