Biography:

Ankit Tiwari, born on March 29, 1982, in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, is a prominent Indian playback singer, live performer, music director, and composer. His musical journey commenced when he met Pradeep Sarkar, leading him to work on jingles and compose background music for television programs. Ankit Tiwari’s career as a playback singer began with the song he composed for the film “Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster” (2011).

In 2014, he collaborated with Mohit Suri for “Ek Villain,” contributing the hit song “Galliyan.” This track earned him the Best Male Playback Singer at the Filmfare Awards, making him the only winner other than Arijit Singh from 2014 to 2020. Ankit Tiwari also recorded “O Yara” for the Pakistani film “Bin Roye.”

Ankit Tiwari was born in Kanpur to parents who owned a music troupe named “Raju Suman and Party.” Despite his parents’ initial focus on completing his studies, Ankit’s deep-rooted passion for music led them to support his professional training. He received training in classical music, piano, Dhrupad, and Western vocals. Ankit won several local music competitions during this period.

After moving to Mumbai in 2007, Ankit Tiwari met Pradeep Sarkar, leading to opportunities to work on jingles and compose background scores for television programs. He debuted as a music director for “Do Dooni Chaar” (2010) and “Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster” (2011), marking the beginning of his singing career.

In 2012, Ankit Tiwari narrated and sang the song “Sunn Raha Hai” for the film “Aashiqui 2,” earning widespread acclaim and multiple awards. He collaborated with other composers, such as Sachin Gupta, and contributed to films like “Issaq.” The year 2014 saw several releases, including “Ek Villain,” where “Galliyan” became a massive success. Ankit’s versatility continued with songs in films like “The Xposé,” “Action Jackson,” “Singham Returns,” and “PK.”

In addition to film music, Ankit Tiwari has four solo albums, including “Durbine Chokh Rakhbona” (2012), “Dwitiyo Purush” (2013), and “Bakyobageesh” (2014). He ventured into English music with the single “Second Sex” and participated in Coke Studio (India) in 2015.
