Amruta Subhash, an Indian actress known for her work in Marathi and Hindi cinema, television, and theatre, is a graduate of the National School of Drama in New Delhi. She has garnered numerous accolades including a National Film Award, two Filmfare Awards, and a Filmfare OTT Award.
Subhash made her debut in the acclaimed film “Shwaas,” India’s Oscar entry for 2004, which won a National Award. Her standout performance in the Marathi film “Astu” earned her the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress in 2013. She has appeared in several critically acclaimed films that have received awards worldwide, including the Crystal Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival and the Fedeora Award at the Venice Film Festival. Subhash is also a trained classical singer, lending her voice to various Marathi films and winning accolades such as the Maharashtra Government State Award for the film “Nital.”
In addition to her acting career, Subhash has ventured into television, starring in the Netflix Original series “Selection Day” (2018–19) and alongside Nawazuddin Siddiqui in “Sacred Games” (2019). She began her acting journey in theatre, appearing in Marathi plays like “Tee Fulrani,” which propelled her into the limelight. Subsequently, she transitioned to roles in Marathi films and television, eventually moving into lead roles. A trained Bharatanatyam dancer, she portrayed the character of ex-bar dancer Lily in the Netflix series “Bombay Begums.”
Born on May 13, 1979, as Amruta Subhashchandra Dhembre, she is the daughter of actress Jyoti Subhash, whose influence inspired her interest in acting. Subhash is married to director Sandesh Kulkarni and actively supports various social causes, serving as a brand ambassador for Zee Marathi Jagruti, an initiative for the empowerment of Marathi women. Her sister-in-law is actress Sonali Kulkarni, with whom she has acted in numerous films.
