Alec Guinness

Biography:

Alec Guinness is a widely praised British actor noted for his versatility both on the theater and film stages. Guinness was born on April 2, 1914, in London, where he started his acting career in the theater and gained acclaim for playing in the plays of Shakespeare. Guinness successfully transferred his acting talent from the theater to films in which he played in such movies as Great Expectations (1946), Oliver Twist (1948), The Lavender Hill Mob (1951), and The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957). His great ability to change himself for a certain role allowed him to become one of the best actors of Britain.

Guinness got the Oscar for the Best Actor in the movie called The Bridge on the River Kwai for his part as Colonel Nicholson. Moreover, Guinness is famous for his role in Star Wars (1977) where he played the character named Obi-Wan Kenobi; this role also brought him an Academy Award nomination. Other famous movies of Guinness include The Man in the White Suit (1951), Kind Hearts and Coronets (1949), Lawrence of Arabia (1962), and Hitler: The Last Ten Days (1973). In 1959 Guinness was appointed Knight Bachelor, and he got many honors throughout his life. Alec Guinness died on August 5, 2000, in Midhurst, England.
