Abu Salim

Abu Salim, a prominent figure in Malayalam cinema, has left an indelible mark with his portrayal of villainous roles and other characters across various regional film industries in India. Born on May 11, 1956, in Kalpetta, Wayanad district, he was the second son among six children of Kunhammed and Fathima. Abu Salim received his primary education from S.K.M.J. High School, Kalpetta, before venturing into the world of cinema.

His cinematic journey commenced with the 1978 film “Rajan Paranja Kadha,” marking the beginning of a career that would span decades and traverse multiple languages, including Tamil, Hindi, Kannada, and Telugu, in addition to his predominant presence in Malayalam cinema.

Parallel to his acting career, Abu Salim pursued a profession in law enforcement and retired as a Sub-Inspector in 2012. Despite his professional commitments, he garnered recognition in the realm of bodybuilding, clinching titles such as Mr. Calicut in 1981, Mr. Kerala in 1982, and Mr. South India thrice in 1983, 1986, and 1987. His prowess extended nationally as he secured the Mr. India title in 1984 and achieved fifth place in 1992.

In his personal life, Abu Salim tied the knot with Ummukulsu on May 23, 1982. The couple is blessed with a daughter named Sabitha and a son named Sanu Salim. Sabitha, now residing in Wollongong, Australia with her husband Ashik T. K., has two children, Lutfa and Luann Ashik. Meanwhile, Sanu Salim manages diverse entrepreneurial ventures, including a restaurant in Kalpetta, a media studio in Kozhikode, and a packet food manufacturing company in Kochi. He is married to Rizwana Parveen, and the couple has three children: Alaaya, Alvira, and Azlaan.

Abu Salim’s journey epitomizes versatility, as he seamlessly transitions between the realms of cinema, law enforcement, and bodybuilding, leaving an enduring legacy in each domain. His contributions to Indian cinema, particularly in the portrayal of antagonistic roles, have cemented his stature as a revered figure in the industry.
