Aasif Khan, born on March 13, 1991, is an Indian actor recognized for his portrayal of Babar in the action crime thriller web series Mirzapur (2018-2020). Hailing from Nimbahera, a small town in the Chittorgarh district of Rajasthan, India, Aasif’s father, Late Mr. Ayyub Khan, worked for J.K. Cement, while his mother, Mrs. Firdous Ayyub Khan, is a homemaker. He has two brothers and a sister.
Despite average academic performance, Aasif showed a strong interest in the arts, particularly acting, from a young age. His passion ignited during a school event in 2001, where he played a servant in the play Kissa Kursi Ka. Inspired by comedian Raju Srivastava’s performance on The Great Indian Laughter Challenge, he won a local stand-up competition. However, his father’s sudden passing in 2008 temporarily halted his acting aspirations, leading him to take up various odd jobs while completing his higher secondary education.
In 2010, Aasif moved to Mumbai to pursue his acting dreams. Initially working as a waiter in a hotel, he later found employment in a mall while attending auditions. Encouraged to refine his craft, he joined Sarthak and Ujaagar Theatre Group in Jaipur in 2011. Over the next five years, he honed his skills, performing in numerous plays including Abu Hassan directed by Rajiv Acharya.
A highlight of Aasif’s career came in 2015 when he performed the Rajasthani play Kasumal Sapno at the International Theatre Festival in Karachi. Returning to Mumbai in 2016, he worked as a casting associate for a year before making cameo appearances in films like Toilet: Ek Prem Katha and Pari.
In 2017, Aasif received acclaim for his role in Anurag Worlikar’s short film Vacancy, winning Best Actor awards at Skylight Film Festival and Cineshorts by Viacom18. Subsequently, he gained widespread recognition for his portrayal of Babar in Mirzapur.
His Bollywood debut came in Raj Kumar Gupta’s India’s Most Wanted (2019), followed by appearances in Humorously Yours (2019) and Jamtara – Sabka Number Ayega (2020). He garnered praise for his roles in Panchayat (2020) and Paatal Lok (2020).
Continuing his success, Aasif appeared in Mirzapur season 2 and various short films in 2020. In 2021, he featured in Click and Pagglait, followed by roles in web series such as Human, Dil Se Hero, and Murder In Agonda in 2022.
He starred as the lead in Ghar Set Hai, a comedy-drama series on VOOT, and appeared in The Great Indian Family, a romantic comedy film. Additionally, he portrayed Prashant Bhaiya in Dehati Ladke on Amazon miniTV.
Upcoming projects include roles in horror-comedy films Kakuda and The Virgin Tree, as well as romantic comedies Ishq Chakkallas and Noorani Chehra. He is set to appear in Section 108, a thriller drama slated for release on February 2, 2024, written and directed by Rasikh Khan and presented by Anees Bazmee.
