Biography:

Tamil entrepreneur Subaskaran Allirajah, born in Sri Lanka on March 2, 1972, is of British descent. He is the chairman and founder of the telecom firm Lycamobile. Through his entertainment company Lyca Productions, situated in Chennai, India, he is also a producer of Tamil and Hindi films. Lyca Productions’ debut film, Kaththi (2014), was released.

It made the science fiction thriller 2.0 (2018), which at the time of its release was the most costly movie in India and the fifth most expensive movie not in the English language.[1] Ponniyin Selvan: I (2022) and Ponniyin Selvan: II (2023), which are both Tamil film releases, were both produced by Lyca Productions.

He was revealed as the new owner of the Lanka Premier League’s Jaffna Kings in September 2021 (LPL). Lyca Productions is the owner of the cricket team Lyca Kovai Kings, which plays in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) and represents Coimbatore city.

The Sunday Times ranked Lycatel 36th out of 250 top mid-market private companies in October 2011 In recognition of his contributions to the Asian community in the UK, Allirajah was given a gold award for Best Overall Enterprise during the 2010 Asian Achievers Award ceremony. The “International Entrepreneur of the Year” was went to Allirajah in 2011 from Asian Voice Political & Public Life.

Allirajah was given the “2011 Power Business of the Year” and “Social Entrepreneur of the Year” awards by the English Asian Business Awards in 2012, in recognition of the expansion of the Lycamobile company internationally.

Lycatel and its creator have been involved in several disputes about purported fraud since November 2018. The business was scheduled to present its case against HM Revenue and Customs at a tribunal hearing in March 2020.

The company projects that, in the event of a loss, it would have to pay £60 million, a potential liability that has nearly risen in recent years. Lycamobile would not disclose the amount of money involved in the other two cases.
