Narayan was born in a ethnic Maithil Brahmin family whose nationality is Nepalese.Narayan studied at Jageshwar High School, Kunauli, Supaul, Bihar, India, where he finished his SSC and later obtained his intermediate degree from Ratna Rajya Laxmi Campus of Tribhuvan University in Kathmandu, Nepal. His father Harekrishna Jha was a farmer and his mother Bhuvneshwari Devi was a folk singer
who encouraged his career.
PERSONAL LIFE:
In the year 1984 he was married to first wife Ranjana Jha and eventually got seperated due to personal disputes between the couple. In the year 1985 he married his second wife Deepa Ghatraj.He has one son Aditya Narayan.
CAREER:
Narayan began his career in 1970 as a Maithili folk singer for Nepali Radio which includes popular songs in Maithili and Nepali. He started his Bollywood career in 1980 when he was noticed by music director Rajesh Roshan, who asked Narayan to sing for the Hindi film Unees-Bees for the song “Mil Gaya Mil gaya”.Narayan was given the opportunity to sing with Mohammed Rafi who was Narayan’s inspiration.
His first duet was in the film Sannata. Soon after, Narayan sang for a number of other films, including Bade Dil Wala in 1983, where he sang a duet with senior singer Lata Mangeshkar, composed by senior music director R. D. Burman.
In total he has sung above 36000 songs and is fluent in 14 languages which is quite interesting to know.
