Shalini Ajith, also known as Baby Shalini, is a former Indian actress and child artist known for her work in Malayalam and Tamil films. She was born on November 20, 1979, into a Protestant Malayali Christian family. Her father, originally from Kollam, moved the family to Madras with dreams of becoming an actor. Shalini attended various schools in Chennai and later pursued her college education at Annamalai University. She has two siblings, a younger sister named Shamili and an elder brother named Richard, both of whom are also actors. Shalini is known for her interest in badminton and her participation in state-level tournaments.

Shalini began her career as a child artist under the direction of Fazil, gaining fame for her roles in Malayalam films during the 1980s. She also appeared in the TV serial “Amloo” in the late 1980s. Her distinct hairstyle, a short bob with a front fringe, became widely known as the “Baby Shalini haircut.” After a hiatus from acting, she made a successful comeback as a lead heroine in 1997 with the Malayalam film “Aniyathipravu,” which was a blockbuster. This success led to the Tamil remake of the film, titled “Kadhalukku Mariyadhai,” in which she also starred and received praise for her performance.
