Kamal Sadanah, born on October 21, 1970, is an Indian actor, producer, and director, and the son of the renowned producer and director Brij Sadanah.
His foray into acting commenced in 1992 alongside Kajol in the film “Bekhudi,” but unfortunately, it did not fare well at the box office. However, 1993 brought him greater success with “Rang,” co-starring with the late Divya Bharti. Despite appearing in several films throughout the 1990s, he struggled to replicate the success of “Rang” and eventually took a hiatus from acting.
In 2005, Kamal made a comeback to acting and simultaneously made his directorial debut with the modestly budgeted film “Karkash,” featuring himself, Anup Soni, and Suchitra Pillai.
His entry into the television industry occurred in 2007 with a role in the Zee TV serial “Kasamh Se.” That same year, he both acted in and produced “Victoria No. 203,” a remake of his father’s 1972 hit film.
In 2014, Kamal showcased his skills as a writer and director in “Roar: Tigers of the Sundarbans.”
After a 15-year hiatus from acting, Kamal returned to the screen in 2022 with “Salaam Venky,” directed by Revathy and reuniting him with his first co-star, Kajol. The film was released on December 9, 2022.
Kamal’s personal life has been marked by tragedy. On his 20th birthday in 1990, a quarrel between his parents escalated into a tragic incident, resulting in the shooting of his mother and sister by his father, who subsequently took his own life. Despite this traumatic event, Kamal persevered in his career and personal life.
During his hiatus from acting, Kamal married make-up artist Lisa John, and they share two children, a son named Angath and a daughter named Namrata, in memory of Kamal’s late sister. His production company, ‘Angath Arts Private Limited,’ is named after his son.
In 2005, Kamal’s final appearance as a lead actor was in “Karkash,” a film co-produced with Suchitra Pillai and directed by Kamal himself. His efforts to revive his career faced challenges, as the film received limited release and did not perform well. Subsequently, in 2007, his production of “Victoria No. 203,” directed by Anant Mahadevan, failed to replicate the success of his father’s original film.
