Several discussions were carried out between Tollywood and the Andhra Pradesh government, regarding the sale of movie tickets, and the permission for benefit and extra shows in the state. Today, while introducing the Andhra Pradesh Cinemas (Regulation) (Amendment) Bill, 2021, Information and Public Relations Minister Perni Venkatramaiah alias Nani, clarified that there would be no permissions given for benefit or extra shows for theatres in the state.
Nani also clarified that movie tickets would have to be sold through an online portal run by the government, and that sale of tickets at the theatres is prohibited here on. He said that this would increase the transparency in the revenue that a film is making, thereby reducing tax deficits. He also said that permission for more than 4 shows in a day would not be given to any theatre either.
This is a major bummer for Tollywood, given that several big films are slated to release in the coming days, and their revenue would greatly depend on the several benefit and extra shows. It is now to be seen what will happen here on.
