RGV’s Satya To Return To Big Screen On This Date

The trend of re-releasing iconic old films remains to continue in 2025 as well. After Ranbir Kapoor’s Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma’s gangster drama Satya is set to hit the theatres on January 17, 2025.

Released in 1998, Satya, over the years, achieved cult status and is once again set to amaze the audiences. The groundbreaking movie features a stellar cast, including Manoj Bajpayee, Shefali Shah, Urmila Matondkar, and JD Chakravarthy in leading roles. Taking to social media, PVR Cinemas shared the news with a caption that read, “The past can’t be buried, and neither can the truth! Get ready to dive into the world of Satya once again at PVR INOX (sic).”

Manoj Bajpayee, who played the iconic character Biku Matre, reshared the post on Instagram Stories. The movie, produced and directed by RGV, was co-written by Anurag Kashyap and Saurabh Shukla. Other cast members include talented actors like Paresh Rawal, Makarand Deshpande, and Saurabh Shukla.

About Satya

The crime drama movie narrates the story of the titular character Satya, played by JD Chakravarthy, who arrives in Mumbai in search of a job. He befriends Bhiku Mhatre (Manoj Bajpayee) and gradually becomes entangled in Mumbai’s criminal underworld.

For the unaware, Satya had won major awards that year. Manoj Bajpayee earned the Best Supporting Actor award at the 46th National Film Awards. At the 44th Filmfare Awards, Satya secured six wins, including Best Film (Critics) for Ram Gopal Varma, Best Actor (Critics) for Manoj Bajpayee, Best Background Score for Sandeep Chowta, Best Actress (Critics) for Shefali Shah, Best Editing for Apurva Asrani and Bhanodaya, and Best Sound Design for H. Sridhar.
