Drishyam

Story:

Drishyam is a Hindi-language crime thriller directed by Nishikant Kamat. It is a remake of the 2013 Malayalam film of the same name and features Ajay Devgn, Tabu, Shriya Saran, Ishita Dutta, Mrunal Jadhav, and Rajat Kapoor in the lead roles. The music, composed by Vishal Bhardwaj with lyrics by Gulzar, accompanies the film released on July 31, 2015.

The storyline revolves around the disappearance of a policewoman’s son, putting Vijay’s family under suspicion. Vijay, determined to protect his family, spares no effort in shielding them. Upon the announcement of the Hindi remake, producer Ekta Kapoor sent a legal notice to the Malayalam filmmakers. She claimed that Drishyam was adapted from Japanese author Keigo Higashino’s book, The Devotion of Suspect X, for which she owned the rights. However, the original Drishyam director and screenwriter Jeethu Joseph refuted these claims, denying any adaptation or copying of the Japanese novel and film.

Drishyam received both critical acclaim and commercial success, grossing over ₹111 crores worldwide. A sequel, Drishyam 2, was released in 2022. The film also found success in China, earning $4.05 million, boosting its global earnings to over ₹147 crores.
