The best 2024 movie sequel winner is none other than Stree 2. This most loved small-town horror-comedy is a sequel to the 2018 movie of the same name. Starring Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao reprising their roles, Stree 2 is directed by Amar Kaushik, maintaining its original comic elements, blending it seamlessly with supernatural twists. Packed with some over-the-top action sequences, this star-studded film cast featured Deepika Padukone, Arjun Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, Tiger Shroff. Kareena Kapoor, and others in key roles. Despite having a stupendous run at the box office, becoming the third highest-grossing Hindi film of 2024, the film’s preachy undertones, poor story, weak performances, and repetitive plot drew criticism.

Tollywood superstar Allu Arjun returned to the screen with his iconic swag in the sequel to his 2021 massive blockbuster, Pushpa: The Rise, titled Pushpa 2: The Rule. Directed by Sukumar, the movie continued the saga of Pushpa’s battle against his enemies and ruling the smuggling underworld. Even though audiences criticized Pushpa 2 for having irregularities in the screenplay, the film is now 2024’s blockbuster sequel, as it became a global box office phenomenon, crossing over the 1000 crore mark worldwide.

One of the highly anticipated sequels of 2024, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 starred Kartik Aaryan essaying the role of a quirky psychiatrist offering a blend of some scarejumps and laughs. Despite its lavish production, high budget, and moral undertones, Indian 2 had a very poor script and struggled with pacing issues and hence had a dismal run at the theaters.

Another Telugu comedy sequel released in 2024 is Tillu Square. Actor Siddhu Jonnalagadda returned as DJ Tillu in this laugh-out-loud sequel that first came in 2022. Tillu Square was an instant fan favourite, and critics praised Jonnalagadda’s unique comic timing and quirky dialogue delivery.

LSD 2 had some fresh faces and a bold storyline; however, the film bombed at the box office, earning only Rs 0.50 crore.

The thriller-romance movie is a sequel to the 2021 movie titled Haseen Dilruba, starring Vikrant Massey and Taapsee Pannu in titular roles. Directed by Vinil Mathew, the sequel dives deeper into the dark and complicated relationship of the main characters in an engaging, gripping narrative of obsession, betrayal, and revenge. The film has some stellar performances and an intriguing plot. Although it couldn’t match the rawness of its predecessor, Phir Aayi Haseen Dillruba definitely was a visual treat, and the picturesque landscapes of the location used in the movie complemented the haunting atmosphere and dark undertones of the movie.
