In the second week of May, there are no big releases creating much buzz. Only films with strong content may get attention. Taking advantage of this gap, small filmmakers are releasing their long-pending movies. One such film is M4M (Motive for Murder), which is relying mainly on word of mouth. Let’s see how it impressed the audience.
M4M Story: Writer CH Vasudev publishes M4M, a book about serial killings, but it gets banned by the government. Soon after, a star hero is brutally murdered in a shocking, artistic style. ACP Krishna takes up the case, while his wife Radha, a crime journalist, also investigates. As more similar murders happen, they use the book for clues. Whether they solve the mystery and catch the killer forms the rest of the story.
Performances: Sambith Acharya, an Odia actor who has done Telugu films earlier, is back with M4M hoping for a breakthrough. He plays ACP Krishna and fits the role, but his performance doesn’t impress much. Even though his character had scope for elevation, it is not fully utilized, and he is mostly shown in phone conversations while investigation work is handled by the heroine.
Jo Sharma also fails to make a strong impact with weak expressions and poor lip sync. However, Subhalekha Sudhakar and Geetha Bhascker perform well, with Geetha Bhascker delivering a surprising and memorable role.
Technical Aspects: Director Mohan Vadlapatla makes his directorial debut with M4M. As a thriller, it needed strong suspense, twists, and gripping narration, especially with today’s sharp audience who easily predict outcomes.
However, the film feels predictable from the start with a lazy screenplay. The second half suspense and climax twist don’t impress, and the killer reveal feels weak and unconvincing. The motive is poorly explained. Low production values, dull visuals, and sudden scene jumps further affect the experience, making the short runtime feel unnecessarily long.
Analysis: Suspense thriller and crime investigation films always have good demand. But they need a balanced mix of gripping narration and strong thrilling elements to work well. In M4M, that balance is missing. Because of this, the film ends up feeling like a wasted attempt rather than an engaging thriller.
Verdict: Predictable and weak thriller with poor narration and missing suspense, making it an overall disappointing watch.
Bottom Line: Lacks thrill, fails to impress.
Rating: 1/5
