Amitabh Bachchan recently shared a humorous anecdote regarding his legendary 1978 film Don on his blog.
Don, a 1978 film by Chandra Barot featuring Amitabh Bachchan as Mark Donald (also known as the title character) and Vijay Pal as the simpleton who looks exactly like him, was a huge blockbuster. The movie reportedly earned the third-highest box office total of the year. However, did you know that not everyone liked the title of the book? Amitji recently discussed this on his blog and explained the precise reasons why people had doubts.
Amitabh Bachchan posted a humorous anecdote regarding his legendary 1978 film Don on his blog. The seasoned actor admitted that the movie’s title irked and confused the showbiz market at the time. The existence of a clothing brand with a similar name was the cause.
Taking to his blog Amitabh Bachchan said, “Amusingly, when the film ‘DON’ was announced with me .. many in the world of Hindi cinema were quite unaware of the word don .. what they were familiar with was a product known as DAWN .. the DAWN banyaan .. vests .. And the market was very skeptical and annoyed with the makers as to why a film title should be about undergarments. Many still are.”
The much-loved movie, which even had a revival with Shah Rukh Khan portraying the title role, just marked its 41st anniversary, which the star recently commemorated. The “Project K” actor had previously stated, “Don was a name that no one in the market approved of,” on a previous film anniversary. They never got what it meant and never thought a name like “DON” was appropriate for a Hindi movie title. In fact, many people found the term to be pretty humorous, if the truth be told.
