Indian screenwriter and director Yaar Kannan has directed and written for Tamil movies. He debuted in the horror movie Yaar? in 1985, and in the late 1980s, he worked frequently with Ramarajan.
Following his stint with Mahendran, Kannan helmed the horror film Yaar? (1985), which provided actor Arjun his big break in the Tamil cinema business. The filmmaker used the name of the picture as a prefix once it became successful, and he then collaborated with Ramarajan on numerous other films in the late 1980s, including Namma Ooru Nayagan (1988), Anbu Kattalai (1989), and Kaavalan (1990). Yuga (2006), a low-budget science-fiction movie starring Richard Richards, marked Kannan’s comeback.
The movie, which was produced by fifty-eight financiers, did not do well at the box office and garnered unfavorable reviews. After that, he oversaw the Tamil adaptation of Punnami Naagu, a Telugu movie starring Mumaith Khan, and assisted in its 2010 release as Pournami Naagam. The movie was unable to duplicate the Telugu original’s level of success. He had intended to direct Master Vinay in a fantasy trilingual film called Piravi in 2010, but the project was never completed.
Actor Maruthi of Marumunai, Suriya Nithi of Vilambaram, and Azhagan Selva of Azhagumagan are among the promising filmmakers he has let to train under him. Kannan has acted in a few movies in the 2010s, including Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam, which he co-starred in twice with director Ponram and Prabhu Solomon.
