Indian comedian and actor Vengal Rao has primarily acted in comedic roles. Throughout the majority of his acting career, he appeared on screen alongside legendary comic Vadivelu in numerous comedic scenes.
He started out as a stuntman and then performed stunt duplicate and dupe scenes for well-known actors Rajinikanth, Vijayakanth, and Amitabh Bachchan. Among his noteworthy stunt-mastering credits are Captain Prabhakaran (1991), Panakkaran (1990), Rajadhi Raja (1989), and Mappillai (1989).
However, his career as a stuntman was repeatedly hampered by injuries sustained on location and at shooting sets, so he chose to concentrate on acting instead. As a stuntman, he suffered severe injuries to his knees and shoulders during filming battle scenes. During his early years, he collaborated with seasoned action stunt choreographer Vikram Dharma and worked as a stunt master for about 25 years.
In his early acting career, he was given little parts like sidekick and henchman, where he only made one-shot scenes that lasted less than a minute. When they frequently collaborated with Vadivelu on comedic tracks, he and other side comedians like Bonda Mani, Muthukaalai, Siva Narayana Murthy, Singamuthu, Crane Manohar, and Mayilsamy gained greater recognition and appreciation from the general public.
Throughout his career as a film actor, he has often worked with veteran Vadivelu in comedic track sequences and garnered attention for his on-screen persona alongside Vadivelu. However, his roles in most of the films have been minimal because he mostly appears in scenes where Vadivelu appears.
