Uma Maheswara Rao, a versatile figure in Indian cinema, excels as a film director, screenwriter, aesthetician, and producer, primarily contributing to Telugu films. Born in Vijayawada, now the capital of Andhra Pradesh, his early exposure to literature and performing arts ignited a passion for progressive ideologies.
His literary pursuits manifested in Telugu poetry and short stories during his formative years. Notably, his legendary film “Ankuram,” a pioneering work on human rights and civil liberties, earned him the National Award, AP State’s Best Director Award, and various accolades.
Another noteworthy creation, “Sreekaram,” delved into the challenging subject of an in-camera court against a woman rape victim, securing the AP state’s Feature Film Award.
