Tracy S. Letts is an American playwright, screenwriter, and actor who was born on July 4, 1965. Before making his Broadway debut as a playwright for August: Osage County (2007), for which he won the Tony Award for Best Play and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, he began his career at the Steppenwolf Theatre. He received the 2013 Tony Award for Best Actor in a Play for his performance in the Broadway adaptation of Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?
Letts is renowned as a playwright who has written for Broadway, Off-Broadway, and the Steppenwolf Theatre. Killer Joe, Bug, August: Osage County, Superior Donuts, Linda Vista, Man from Nebraska, and The Minutes are some of his works. Letts made three film adaptations of his plays: John Wells’ August: Osage County, William Friedkin’s Bug, and Killer Joe. His 2009 play Superior Donuts was made into the same-titled television show. Since 1988, Letts has been a stage performer with the Steppenwolf Theatre, appearing in a number of famous plays.
