Biography:

Tharun Moorthy is an Indian filmmaker and screenwriter known for his work in Malayalam cinema. He made a striking directorial debut with Operation Java, which garnered critical and commercial success. His second film, Saudi Vellakka, was selected for the Indian Panorama section at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in 2022, further establishing his reputation as a promising storyteller.

Before entering the film industry, Moorthy was actively involved in the performing arts, participating in theatre and traditional kathakali performances from a young age. He later pursued a career in academics as an assistant professor in computer science engineering. His transition into filmmaking was influenced by a stint in television advertising, where he gained hands-on experience in set design and media production. These skills played a crucial role in shaping his approach to directing.

Despite early aspirations to act, Moorthy struggled to secure significant roles, which eventually led him to explore scriptwriting and direction. Encouraged by his father, who recognized his storytelling potential, Moorthy became a self-taught filmmaker, carving out a unique path in Malayalam cinema through content-driven narratives and realistic filmmaking.
