Actress Tenali Shakuntala hails from Telugu. She was well-known in Tollywood for portraying both evil and humorous characters. She performed in Tamil films and on television as well. She speaks Rayalaseema and Telangana with ease. Tenali Shakuntala is descended from Maharashtrians. Her mother was the head of the household, while her father was an army officer.

She made her stage debut at Ravindra Bharati. Her film debut was with the Telugu movie Maabhoomi in 1979. In 1980, Bhoomii Shakuntala won the Nandi Awards for best actress.

She suffered a terrible heart arrest and died. She gained a lot of popularity with her part in the 1998 film Ganesh. In addition, she has acted in other films, including Gulabi, Indra, Dhool, Vishnu, and Sambu.
