Tariq Mir, raised in the Anantnag district of southern Kashmir, comes from a family of three brothers and two sisters. During his high school years, Tariq developed a passion for acting, regularly participating in cultural events and college functions. In his early twenties, he ventured into drama, performing in productions broadcasted on state-run channels in Srinagar.
In high school, Mir’s acting prowess earned him recognition and accolades for his stage performances and skits. However, opportunities to earn a living through acting were scarce. He managed to make a modest income by performing at college functions and cultural events.
Despite facing taunts from some individuals in his village about his height, Tariq remained undeterred in his pursuit of acting. His breakthrough in Bollywood brought him fame in his hometown, with locals sharing videos of his performances on their mobile phones. Young people started spotting him in public parks, at weddings, and various events, eagerly seeking selfies with him.
Unfortunately, in the past nine months, his acting opportunities have dwindled. Prior to the clampdown, Mir had been offered a role as a villain in another Bollywood film called “Marjaavaan,” directed by Milap Zaveri and released in November the previous year. He even had the script in his possession but was unable to contact the casting director due to the communication blackout. The lead role of an evil dwarf, Vishnu Shetty, was eventually filled by Indian actor Riteish Deshmukh, who had to perform parts of the role on his knees.
Reflecting on the missed opportunity, Mir expressed regret, saying, “Had I secured that role, it would have been beneficial for me. I had never portrayed a villain before, and it was also a substantial role. It could have opened doors for more work and brought me greater publicity.”
