Actor, playback singer, television host, and politician Suresh Gopi was born in India on June 26, 1958. Since June 2024, he has held the positions of Minister of Tourism and Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas. He became the first BJP MP from Kerala and recorded the party’s first-ever victory in a Lok Sabha election in the state when he was elected as a Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha, from the Thrissur Lok Sabha constituency in the general election of 2024. In September 2023, he was appointed President of the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute.
In addition to his work in Malayalam cinema, he has made appearances in a few Bollywood, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada films. Suresh has starred in over 250 films since making his acting debut as a child in the 1965 movie Odayil Ninnu and as an adult in 1986. His performance in Kaliyattam earned him the Kerala State Film Award for Best Actor and the National Film Award for Best Actor in 1998. From 2016 to 2022, he was a nominated member of the Rajya Sabha, India’s upper house of parliament.He also works as a social worker, philanthropist, and environmental protectionist.
