Sunil Kumar Reddy

P. Suneel Kumar Reddy is a prominent Indian director, screenwriter, and film producer primarily known for his work in Telugu cinema. He has garnered recognition for his directorial efforts, including critically acclaimed films such as “Sontha Ooru,” “Gangaputrulu,” “Gulf,” “Oka Romantic Crime Katha,” and “Oka Criminal Prema Katha.” Reddy is closely associated with Sravya Films, a South Indian film production house, and also holds the position of Managing Director at Screenshot Infotainment Pvt Ltd. His films have received 18 State Awards and have been featured in various international film festivals. Notably, he was honored with the Best Director and Best Dialogue Writer awards for his work on “Gangaputrulu.”

One of Reddy’s notable contributions is his direction of the film “Nenem…Chinna Pillana?” for the renowned film mogul D. Rama Naidu, produced under the banner of Suresh Productions. In addition to his filmmaking endeavors, Reddy has served as a jury member for the International Children’s Film Festival India, further highlighting his commitment to the film industry.

In his early life, P. Suneel Kumar Reddy hails from Alaganipadu in the Potti Sriramulu Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh. He pursued his education in Vizag and Sompeta in the northern coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh, ultimately earning a degree in Mechanical Engineering. His passion for journalism led him to start a magazine called “Kokila,” where he served as editor and publisher. Subsequently, he launched an evening daily newspaper named “City Roundup” in Visakhapatnam.

Reddy’s career in the film industry began with “Silence Please,” a heartwarming love story featuring deaf and mute protagonists. He followed this with “Hero,” a children’s film emphasizing the importance of education and physical activities for children, which received recognition with three Nandi Awards. Furthermore, he directed a documentary titled “Chance,” which not only won two Nandi Awards but was also screened at the prestigious Cairo Film Festival.

One of his significant achievements was the release of “Sontha Ooru” in 2009, which was well-received by both audiences and critics, earning the title of Best Film of the Year. His film “Gangaputrulu,” depicting the lives of fishermen, earned Reddy the Best Director and Best Dialogue Writer awards. His recent venture, the Malayalam film “Marubhoomigal,” was honored with three Kerala Critics Awards for Cinematography, Lyrics, and Makeup.

In addition to his filmmaking career, Suneel Kumar Reddy has contributed to the field by serving as a guest faculty member for Annapurna Film School and Ramanaidu Film School, where he conducted numerous film workshops across India. His journey from engineering to journalism and ultimately filmmaking is a testament to his diverse talents and dedication to the art of cinema.
