Indian filmmaker and screenwriter Sumit Roy mostly focuses on Hindi-language movies. Sumit has penned screenplays for Bollywood films including Gehrraiyaan (2022) and Rocky Aur Rani ki Prem Kahani (2023).
In addition to winning IIFA for best story for his film Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani, Sumit was nominated twice for Best Story and Best Screenplay at the 69th Filmfare Awards
At the 2008 Sardinia International Ethnographic Film Festival, his short film Dancing Queen took first place. Additionally, it was chosen to represent India in the 2008 Pangea Day global simulcast.
Sumit was chosen as a finalist of SANKALAN, India’s first screenplay lab, which was supervised by Anurag Kashyap, Sriram Raghvan, and Anjum Rajabali. Sumit then moved to Mumbai to pursue a career in Hindi feature films.
His short film Dancing Queen won first place at the 2008 Sardinia International Ethnographic Film Festival. It was also selected to participate in the 2008 Pangea Day worldwide simulcast on behalf of India.
Anurag Kashyap, Sriram Raghvan, and Anjum Rajabali oversaw SANKALAN, India’s first screenplay lab, where Sumit was selected as a finalist. After that, Sumit relocated to Mumbai in order to work on Hindi feature films.
