Sumit Purohit

Biography:

Sumit Purohit is a renowned Indian film director, screenwriter, editor, and producer famous for his work in Hindi films and digital entertainment. With a Bachelor’s degree in Art History and Aesthetics from the Faculty of Fine Arts, Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, Purohit started his career by producing documentaries, short films, and content for advertisements before moving into mainstream films. Purohit co-wrote Bangistan, a satirical comedy film released in 2015. Besides that, Purohit was a screenwriter for the sports drama series Inside Edge, which aired between 2017 and 2021 on Amazon Prime Video. Purohit gained fame nationally as the chief writer and editor for SonyLIV’s financial drama, Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story. As a result, he was chosen for the BAFTA Breakthrough India initiative because of his contributions to Indian cinema and streaming videos.

Apart from Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story, Purohit has produced several other popular works in the online video space, some of which include Aranyak (2021), Tribhuvan Mishra CA Topper (2024), and Saare Jahan Se Accha (2025). In Saare Jahan Se Accha, Purohit made his debut as a long-form director while simultaneously working as the film’s screenwriter. In addition to his narrative films, Purohit has also worked in the production of many documentaries such as I Woke Up One Morning & Found Myself Famous. Purohit has also directed various commercial advertisements for big brands.
