Shilpa Shetty Kundra, born as Ashwini Shetty in 1975, is a prominent Indian actress primarily known for her work in Hindi cinema. She made her debut in the thriller “Baazigar” in 1993, which earned her a Filmfare Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. Throughout the 1990s, she appeared in films like “Main Khiladi Tu Anari” (1994) and “Jaanwar” (1999), achieving intermittent success.
However, it was the romantic drama “Dhadkan” in 2000 that marked a turning point in her career. This was followed by notable roles in films such as “Indian” (2001) and “Rishtey” (2002), which earned her a second Filmfare nomination for Best Supporting Actress. Shilpa received acclaim for her portrayal of a woman with AIDS in the social drama “Phir Milenge” (2004), garnering a Best Actress nomination. She continued to work in films like “Dus” (2005), “Life in a… Metro” (2007), and “Apne” (2007) before taking a hiatus.
In addition to her acting career, Shilpa ventured into reality television as a judge on “Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa” and became internationally known for her participation in the UK reality show “Celebrity Big Brother” in 2007. She then hosted “Bigg Boss” and judged various dance reality shows. Shilpa is also known for her endorsements, advocacy for feminism and animal rights, as well as her involvement in fitness campaigns, including the Fit India Movement. She received the Champions of Change Award for her work on the Swachh Bharat Mission and was part-owner of the IPL team Rajasthan Royals from 2009 to 2015.
