Sanjay Gupta is an Indian filmmaker, producer, and screenwriter primarily active in Bollywood. He is best known for his remakes of American action-thriller and crime films, such as “Aatish,” “Kaante,” “Kaabil,” “Shootout at Lokhandwala,” “Shootout at Wadala,” “Jazbaa,” “Zinda,” and “Mumbai Saga.” Gupta frequently casts Sanjay Dutt and John Abraham in his movies.
He began his career with “Aatish: Feel the Fire” (1994), featuring Aditya Pancholi and Sanjay Dutt, and went on to write and direct films like “Ram Shastra,” “Khauff,” and “Jung.” His work is often noted for being inspired by various foreign films and directors.
In 2019, Gupta announced on Twitter that he had acquired the rights to Yali Dream Creations’ “Rakshak,” a thrilling graphic novel about a vigilante superhero, and he plans to adapt it into a feature film. It will be the first movie adapted from an existing content published as a graphic novel series, which is still awaiting further development.
Sanjay is not typically associated with romantic comedies, as his movies are mostly stylized thrillers. However, his personal life tells a different story. He remarried his wife, Anu Lekhi, five years after their divorce. They first got married on August 18, 1997, divorced in 2005, and then, after winning her back, they remarried on June 3 to coincide with the wedding anniversary of his favorite actor, Amitabh Bachchan.
