Sajitha Madathil

Biography:

Sajitha Madathil is an Indian actor who performs in theater and movies. She received the Kerala State film award for second best actress for her role in Joy Mathew’s feature film Shutter (2012). At the K. R. Narayanan National Institute of Visual Science and Arts (KRNNIVSA), an independent institution founded by the Keralan government, she serves as the head of the acting department.

She previously served as the Deputy Secretary of the autonomous Sangeet Natak Akademi New Delhi (Academy of Music and Dance, India), which is a part of the Indian government’s Ministry of Culture. She starred in the feature films Shutter (2012), Adimadhyantham (Beginning, Middle, and End) (2011), and Akam (The Interior), directed by Shalini Usha Nair (2011).

At Sangeet Natak Akademi New Delhi (Academy of Music and Dance, India), an independent organization under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, Sajitha Madathil served as Deputy Secretary until 2014. She also held positions as producer at Kairali TV in India, documentation officer/documentary producer at Other Media Communications in New Delhi, and deputy director at Kerala Chalachithra Academy (Academy of Motion Pictures, Kerala State).

She also works at the National Institute of Integrated Learning and Management in New Delhi as a faculty member and theater specialist. She has given presentations on Keralan culture at several academic conferences both domestically and outside.

Sajitha graduated from Rabindra Bharati University in Kolkata with a post-graduate degree in theater arts (M.A. in drama). Additionally, she earned an M.Phil. in Theatre Studies from Mahatma Gandhi University’s School of Letters in Kottayam, Kerala. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. from School of Arts and Aesthetics, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi.
