Indian actor Sabyasachi Chakrabarty works in television, movies, and theater. His most well-known roles have been as Bengali detectives Kakababu and Feluda.His parents, Monica and Jagadish Chandra Chakrabarty, used to refer to him as “Benu.”
Andrew’s High School, Kolkata, awarded him a Higher Secondary Examination pass in 1975. He graduated with a B.Sc. from the University of Delhi’s Hansraj College. In Delhi, he passed the AMI test in 1978. In addition to performing, he is also recognized for his love of the outdoors and woods.
He has a passionate interest in photographing wildlife. In 1986, Sabyasachi tied the knot with Mithu Chakrabarty, another well-known figure in Bengali entertainment. Arjun and Gaurav, his two sons, are both gifted actors. They are employed in television and movies.
A lead part in the 1987 TV series Tero Parbon for the Kolkata Doordarshan channel marked Sabyasachi’s first commercial success. In addition to receiving critical acclaim and having a memorable soundtrack, Tero Parbon’s portrayal of Gora was warmly accepted, helping to establish him as a somewhat successful actor in his early career.
In 1992, he made his film debut in Tapan Sinha’s Antardhan. He kept working on a number of TV dramas and series. He has directed numerous TV episodes as well as some kid-friendly programming. In the Kakababu original film series, he portrayed Kakababu.
He played the role of Kakababu in the mini TV series Khali Jahajer Rahasya (1999), Ek Tukro Chand (2001), and Kakababu Here Gelen? (1995). In Baksho Rahashya (1996), Gosaipur Sargaram (1996), Sheyal Debota Rahasya (1996), Bosepukure Khunkharapi (1997), Joto Kando Kathmandute (1997), Jahangirer Swarnamudra (1998), Ghurghutiyar Ghotona (1998), Golapi Mukto Rahashya (1998), Ambar Sen Antardhan Rahashya (1999)
Dr. Munshir Diary (2000), Bombaiyer Bombete (2003), Kailashey Kelenkari (2007), Tintorettor Jishu (2008), Gorosthaney Sabdhan (2010), Royal Bengal Rahashya (2011), and Double Feluda (2016)have brought back the sentimentality associated with Satyajit Ray’s Feluda series.
He has gained widespread popularity for his parts in a number of films, including Antardhan, Sweth Pathorer Thala, Mahulbanir Sereng, Parineeta (Hindi), Nishijapon, and The Namesake by Mira Nair. In 1983, he became affiliated with the Charbak theater company.
In addition, he has performed in other TV series and Hindi films. He was a member of the primary cast of the first Bangladeshi science fiction film, Porobashinee, and is also highly well-liked in that country.
Chakrabarty won the Best Actor award in 2002 for his role in Ek Je Aachhe Kanya. The Anandalok Awards presented him with the Best Actor award in 2004 for his work in Bombaiyer Bombete.He was named Best Actor by the Bengal Film Journalists’ Association Awards (BFJA) in 1996 for his work in Kakababu Here Gelen and again in 2005 for the same role in Mahulbanir Sereng.
In 1995, 2000, and 2003, Sabyasachi Chakrabarty won the BFJA’s Best Actor in a Supporting Role award. The 2nd International Indo-Bangladesh Kala Music Award (IIBKMA) has been given to him. He has received awards from Kalakar.
