Sabapathy Dekshinamurthy is an Indian film director who mostly works in the Tamil cinema industry. He is sometimes recognized as S. D. Saba and Saba Kailash. Following his DFT at the M.G.R. Government Film and Television Training Institute, formerly the Adyar Film Institute, Sabapathy Dekshinamurthy began his career in 1992 with Bharathan.
The first Tamil movie to become a blockbuster, Bharathan ran in Kerala for a full 100 days. Following that, he directed the critically praised Naam and the popular movies Sundara Purushan, V.I.P., Punnagai Poove, and others. In 2006, Sundara Purushan was adapted as Andala Ramudu in Telugu.
He started work on Irandu Paer, a picture that starred Ramki, Roja, Khushbu, and Sanghavi, in 2001. But the movie was never released. For a brief while in 2009, Dekshinamurthy contributed to the making of the family drama Maa, which starred Prithviraj, Srikanth, Bhumika Chawla, and Madhu Shalini. Though the film had a photo shoot and an initial schedule in Rameswaram, it encountered financial issues and was eventually canceled.
