Ruchi Narain

Biography:

Ruchi Narain is an Indian filmmaker, screenwriter, producer, and director who has made a name for herself in Hindi films and digital entertainment. She began her career as an assistant director to Sudhir Mishra on the film “Is Raat Ki Subah Nahin” (1996) and went on to become the associate director and co-screenwriter of the highly acclaimed political drama “Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi” (2003), for which she won the Filmfare Award for Best Story. Narain made her directorial debut with the urban drama “Kal: Yesterday and Tomorrow” (2005) and has since directed another feature-length animated film, “Hanuman: Da’ Damdaar” (2017).

She has co-founded “R.A.T. Films” along with Ashutosh Shah and Taher Shabbir, a company that produces commercials, films, and premium digital content. Narain shot into fame with her directorial debut for Netflix, Guilty (2020), which explored issues related to consent and #MeToo movement with a suspenseful campus thriller. She also produced, wrote, and directed the action-comedy series Hundred (2020) for Disney+ Hotstar. Her latest project is writing and directing Disney+ Hotstar’s thriller series “Karmma Calling” (2024), which is the official remake of the highly successful American TV series “Revenge”. Known for her character-centric narratives and socially relevant themes, Ruchi Narain has carved a niche for herself in Indian cinema.
