Biography:
Robert De Niro is an acclaimed American actor and producer widely regarded as one of the most influential performers of his generation. Born on August 17, 1943, in New York City, De Niro studied acting under Stella Adler and Lee Strasberg before beginning his film career in the 1960s. His breakthrough came through his collaborations with director Martin Scorsese, particularly in Mean Streets (1973), Taxi Driver (1976), and Raging Bull (1980).
He became known for his intense commitment to roles, immersive performances, and portrayals of complex, morally conflicted characters. Other notable films include The Deer Hunter (1978), Once Upon a Time in America (1984), The Untouchables (1987), and Goodfellas (1990).De Niro has received nine Academy Award nominations and won twice: Best Supporting Actor for The Godfather Part II (1974), in which he portrayed the young Vito Corleone, and Best Actor for Raging Bull (1980), for his performance as boxer Jake LaMotta.
He has also received numerous Golden Globe nominations and awards and was honored with the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2016. His later work includes Casino (1995), Heat (1995), Meet the Parents (2000), Silver Linings Playbook (2012), The Irishman (2019), and Killers of the Flower Moon (2023), the latter earning him another Oscar nomination. Beyond acting, De Niro has been influential as a producer and co-founded the Tribeca Film Festival, contributing significantly to New York City’s film culture.
