Ribhu Dasgupta
Biography:
Ribhu Dasgupta is an Indian film director and screenwriter who has made name in Bollywood films and digital entertainment. He was born in a family of filmmakers in Kolkata. Ribhu is the son of filmmaker Raja Dasgupta and grandson of well-known documentary filmmaker Harisadhan Dasgupta. He shifted to Mumbai in 2005 and started his career as an assistant director in 1971 (2007) under Amrit Sagar. Later he assisted Shashanka Ghosh in Quick Gun Murugun (2009) and Anurag Kashyap in Gulaal (2009). He directed his first film Michael (2011) which is a psychological thriller and it premiered at Shanghai International Film Festival. It bagged a nomination for Asian New Talent Award for best film. Next, he directed TV series Yudh (2014) starring Amitabh Bachchan, followed by mystery thriller Te3n (2016).
Ribhu stepped into OTT platform by directing espionage thriller Bard of Blood (2019) starring Emraan Hashmi. This film became one of the first Netflix India original series. He later directed and co-wrote the Hindi version of The Girl on the Train (2021), followed by the action thriller Code Name: Tiranga (2022) and the courtroom drama Section 84. Known for his skills with psychological thrillers and suspense driven plots, Ribhu Dasgupta has carved out a distinct identity for himself in modern Hindi films and streaming entertainment.
