Rakesh Roshan is an Indian film producer, director, screenwriter, and actor known for his work in Hindi cinema. He appeared in 84 films during the 1970s and 1980s, primarily in supporting roles in major productions. His career took off as a director with a series of successful films starting with the letter “K” from 1987 onwards.
Among his most acclaimed works are the action drama Khudgarz (1987), the revenge thriller Khoon Bhari Maang (1988), the action-comedy Kishen Kanhaiya (1990), the dramatic thriller Karan Arjun (1995), the musical romantic thriller Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai (2000), and the sci-fi film Koi… Mil Gaya (2003) along with its sequels. His Krrish superhero series (2006–2013) also gained notable success. All his directorial ventures have been commercially successful, earning him Filmfare Awards for Best Film and Best Director for Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai and Koi… Mil Gaya.
Born on September 6, 1949, Roshan is the son of Indian music director Roshan and Bengali singer Ira Roshan. In January 2019, he was diagnosed with early-stage squamous cell carcinoma of the throat.
